When time permits and cats allow, I like to write. Non-fiction mainly, and sometimes related to collaborative transmedia projects.

As a young civil servant, I spent two exciting years at 10 Downing Street during Margaret Thatcher's premiership.

With Alistair Murray, I wrote this account of the historical King Macbeth, retelling his fascinating story in the actual landscapes and locations.

I wrote this ancestral tourism book to celebrate people's sense of connection with Scotland and help them get started with ancestral research.

Alistair and I are currently working on a book about the turbulent Viking Earldoms of Orkney and Caithness. Watch this space for news!
